Volunteer with Us

On-boarding a volunteer can take up to 2 weeks. The approval process for creating a new program using volunteers will take about three weeks.

We are looking for volunteers who:

• Have special skills, life experiences and an array of interests to share with our youth
• Have flexible schedules

Our Volunteer Services team reviews every application carefully and interviews appropriate applicants.

Successful volunteer candidates will be asked to complete:

• Two police checks, including a vulnerable police check
• A three-part online training program plus other compulsory trainings that prepares volunteers for working with youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk
• Three references

In general, our volunteer roles fall within one of these categories:

1. Special events & fundraising
2. Mentoring
3. Life skills
4. Recreational programs
5. Administrative support
6. Sorting donations
7. Group volunteer projects

Our volunteers do not provide one-on-one counselling. We have highly-trained staff who build relationships with our youth and help them access the services they need to regain control of their lives.

• Facilitating a life skills workshop (e.g. budgeting, food and nutrition, computer skills, communication, etc.)
• Employment workshops
• Facilitating art, soccer, basketball, karaoke, yoga or meditation
• Assisting with data entry and filing
• Providing legal advice
• Helping with special events
• Tutoring

Our governance committee is responsible for ensuring that our Board and board committees have the appropriate number of directors and the right blend of skills. Board committees include some members of the community. The Board and its committees are reviewed annually.
