At Covenant House Toronto, we are truly grateful for the support of community partners who help us provide care and hope to youth experiencing homelessness.
Earlier this year, IKEA Toronto Downtown’s People & Planet Committee invited coworkers to nominate local organizations for their annual holiday fund. Among the nominations, Covenant House received the most votes, thanks in large part to Linda, a coworker who shared her personal connection to our organization. Her nomination deeply resonated with her colleagues, who voted to support the young people in our care.
But this wasn’t the beginning of our relationship with IKEA. The downtown Toronto location first became a donor to our programs in 2022, with a special interest in education and food and nutrition. Since then, IKEA coworkers have toured our facility, volunteering with various tasks throughout the House. Most recently, they put together packages filled with essential household items like pots, cutlery, and other basics to support youth moving from our shelter and into independent living.
“At IKEA, we have big opportunities and responsibilities to explore new ways to support many people” says Arnar Eidskrem, Market Manager, IKEA Toronto Downtown. “By utilizing our business capabilities to support organizations like Covenant House Toronto that work to empower the most vulnerable members of our communities, together we journey towards building fairer and more inclusive neighborhoods together."
We are proud to partner with IKEA Toronto Downtown. Their support helps us meet the immediate needs of young people while creating opportunities for brighter futures full of possibility.
From all of us at Covenant House Toronto, thank you for turning one coworker’s story into a powerful act of community care.
