Donna and Gary Slaight add warmth this winter with a $1 million donation to Covenant House

In the spirit of giving this holiday season, Gary and Donna Slaight have made a $1 million personal donation to Covenant House Toronto.

The family’s generosity will create the Slaight Family Emergency Fund and comes at a critical time with the cold weather season upon us. It will help more youth stay safe from the cold weather and provide them with food, a place to sleep, warm clothing, and access to health and other vital services this winter. The gift builds on and supports the current emergency services being offered by Covenant House to reach more young people in crisis.

The Slaight Family Emergency Fund is a beacon of hope for the young people who are counting on us. “Gary and Donna's generosity inspires confidence in our youth, letting them know that there are people who believe in them, see them, and their potential,” says Covenant House executive director Mark Aston.

At Covenant House, we know that the winter months are extremely difficult for young people experiencing homelessness; trying to find a safe and warm place to spend the night and food to eat are daily concerns.

According to Gary Slaight, "for those who are able, it is important to help those organizations who are serving our most vulnerable when and where they are in most need.” Gary and Donna hope that this gift serves as an opportunity to help young people find a safe haven this winter.

The holidays can be a difficult time for many people, especially youth experiencing homelessness and this gift shows young people the love and acceptance they deserve. We are very grateful for the Slaight family’s inspiring kindness and compassion.
