Throughout the pandemic our housing workers have relied on technology to provide personalized support to youth seeking or trying to maintain their housing.

Danny, a housing worker, says the team adapted from in person meetings to phone calls, video conferencing and other phone apps to connect with the youth.

Video apps allowed housing workers to virtually attend apartment viewings, provide guidance throughout the process and other support services.

“Technology has helped us get through the lockdowns but not without some challenges and limitations,” says Danny. “The main challenge was that not all youth have phones or easy access to a computer in order to connect with housing workers.”

In those cases, they meet with the youth in-person, following safety protocols, to provide support.

When reflecting on what has happened over the past year, Danny says: “I’m pleased that we were able to use technology creatively so that we could continue to provide the best support possible during this challenging time.”
