This is why Tia Peric is taking part in our virtual Stay In + Sleep Out event

Since the age of 22, Tia Peric has been an avid supporter of Covenant House Toronto’s Sleep Out events. Five years later, she is now a dedicated member of the event committee and will be sleeping out again this month!

One of the main reasons Tia is drawn to Covenant House is because of our unwavering commitment to welcoming each youth with open arms and treating them with the dignity and respect they deserve. She notes that having strong relationships and support systems are things many of us take for granted, but Covenant House is committed to providing this to each youth that walks through our doors.

“Living and working in downtown Toronto, there are daily reminders of how prevalent an issue such as homelessness is in our city,” Tia explains. “At my first Sleep Out, I was able to get a better understanding of all the things Covenant House does to support homeless youth, which goes far beyond providing a warm bed and meal to those in need.”

Although Tia has slept out four times before, she acknowledges that each year is a new learning experience. She finds it humbling because it gives her an appreciation for the youth who do it on a nightly basis. Sleeping out also provides her with the opportunity to surround herself with participants of diverse backgrounds, making a difference together.

“One of my favourite things about the Sleep Out is the opportunity to connect with the staff and youth of Covenant House, and the other sleepers,” Tia shares. “This is an incredible community, and I always leave the event inspired to continue to support this organization – even if a little sleepy!”
